Some areas in America are rapidly rounding the corner from winter into the warmth and beauty of spring. But for many of us, we still have a while yet to go. For the myriad of cold, wet, and just plain gross days still left before summer, here are some family card games you can play to pass some time.
From reading the rules, this game seems like it’d be over before it gets too long in the tooth. For those who have played it, however, everyone can summon the memory of a legendary hour plus game of ERS. It’s just the sort of game that can string out into an epic battle for the ages at the drop of a hat. And even if it doesn’t, you can easily shuffle up and deal again before you even realize that it’s already 9:00 p.m.
Nobody wants to stop playing President. Either you’re President, feeling good, not wanting to go back to the doldrums of your daily life where you are (presumably) not a President. Or you’re the Janitor, and simply can’t leave the table until you at least claw your way back up to the middle. Simply put, everybody wants to play one more round. And when the weather report says rain for the next day and a half, there’s simply no reason not to.
I literally was taught the rules to Mao on a rainy day at summer camp. And honestly, that game of Mao was more fun than any canoe or waterslide I’ve ever come across. As the rules stack higher and higher between games, the fun just increases. It’s a game you can play until the rules have become so complex that they’re threatening to snap the last brain cell you have left in your head. But hopefully the sun will have come out by then.
