Rook is a trick-taking game in which players try to be the first to 300 points by using the nest or “Kitty” to create their best hand. The game was created because the Church thought that playing cards encouraged gambling and that the images on the cards were improper. Therefore, a deck of special Rook cards was created. In Rook, you have cards worth points instead of counting tricks.
Rook may be played with standard playing cards by removing the 2s, 3s, and 4s from the deck, playing Aces high, and adding the joker to be used as the Rook Bird card. When playing with such a deck, scoring changes as follows: each 5 is worth 5 points, each ace and 10 is worth 10 points, and the joker is worth 20 points.
